Indonesia has now given birth to the largest Islamic Bank, which will strengthen the national banking structure. Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurated Bank Syariah Indonesia directly from the State Palace. This largest Islamic bank is the result of a merger of three Islamic banks in Indonesia (BRI Syariah, Sharia Mandiri, and BNI Syariah) and is expected to contribute to the development of the sharia economy. President Joko Widodo has high hopes for Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) which has just been formed can become the center of gravity of the world's Islamic economy.
OJK has issued a license for Bank Syariah Indonesia as a new entity in 27 January 2021. OJK supports policies to encourage the birth of Islamic banks with larger economies of scale and have a wide network in serving the community, become a more competitive bank in the region and globally and make this bank ranked 7 in Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Wimboh Santoso at the inauguration of Bank Syariah Indonesia.
